This cartoon has two importants african american figures : Martin Luther King and Barack Obama. Martin Luther King was a former civil rights activist for african american people , a pastor and human rights activist. Barack Obama is the former 43th president of the US.

The cartoon has «I have a dream » written which is a famous quote said by Martin Luther King in one of his speech. This speech was after a work and civil rights protest and was about equality and human rights.
On the bottom of Obama’s face , we can see « that became true » written. Barack Obama was the first Afro American president and this marked history.

The cartoonist’s message is that after all of these years of discrimination, racism and inequality : the people of the US have hope for a new beginning with a new president that can relate to those issues and hopefully make it better for everyone.
