- First step : from Europe to Africa  ( manufactured goods = firearms, gunpowder, metals, alcohol, cotton goods, knives, mirrors )

- Second step : from Africa to the New World ( slaves )

- Third step : from the New World to to Europe  ( raw materials = cotton, tobacco, sugar cane, coffee )

armes à feu = firearms

poudre à canon = gunpowder

voyage = journey

sommes = amounts

( huge amounts of money = d'énormes sommes d'argent )
